At a cost of over 5.3 million US$, the Cruce del Isleño-Macao highway was opened last week. The President Leonel Fernandez inaugurated the 18km stretch of highway at an event with tourism minister Felix Jiménez, also present were local dignitaries and councilors.
"The road meets the requirements necessary to continue with the tourism sector's development in the eastern region" said the tourism minister.
The road will allow easy access to and from the tourist resorts in the Altagracia province in the east of the country and will benefit the tourists and locals alike. The highway is the first part of the vast infrastructure work in the Punta Cana region.
